ART THAT DOESN’T WHISPER

Handcrafted art objects in which materials, imagination and character come together.
A blank wall
sometimes asks
Just for the sake of it.
ART WITH A VOICE OF ITS OWN
Not just made to look pretty on the wall.
Pimpans’ wall art rarely begins with a detailed plan. Sometimes it’s a shape in a piece of wood. Sometimes it’s a piece of material that’s been left lying around somewhere. A memory, a face, an animal or simply an idea that suddenly pops into his head.
That’s when the creative process begins.
Materials are combined, worked, fired, painted and re-examined. Not until everything is perfect, but until the object feels right to Pimpan.
This results in wall art that not only fills a wall, but also adds something to the room: texture, character and, above all, a story that you can discover for yourself.
I often see something
before it arrives.
“I create what I feel. What someone else sees in it is up to them.”
FROM MATERIAL TO STORY
What is over for one person,
Pimpan can’t get started just yet.
A piece of wood, metal, rope or any other material that once served a completely different purpose can form the basis of a new work of art.
Pimpan doesn’t just look at what a material is, but above all to what it might yet can be.
A natural curve becomes a feature. A flaw becomes part of a composition. Different materials that originally had nothing to do with one another suddenly find their place within the same object.
It is precisely that freedom that makes every piece of work different.
It is not the material that is adapted to a pre-conceived design. The design evolves in line with what Pimpan discovers along the way.
Sometimes I find the material.
Sometimes the idea comes to me.
ONE IDEA. ONE OBJECT.
Art doesn’t have to be perfect to move people.
You can tell from Pimpans’ wall art that it’s handmade.
Textures remain visible. Materials are allowed to show their age. Minor variations, rough textures and unexpected details are not concealed, but form part of the work.
As a result, this does not produce a series of identical decorations, but rather a collection of individual works of art, each with its own unique character.
Some are obvious. Others you only notice when you look a little longer.
But inconspicuous? That’s rarely the intention.
It doesn’t have to be perfect.
My own, actually.
